The Bakersfield Condors, owned by the Edmonton Oilers, announced today that C Philip McRae has been signed to an American Hockey League (AHL) contract. The 25-year old spent last season with the Chicago Wolves (affiliate of the St. Louis Blues) in the AHL.

McRae, 24, spent the majority of last season in Finland’s top professional league (Liiga) with the Espoo Blues, ranking sixth on the club with 20 points (eight goals, 12 assists) in 45 regular season games. He also added four points, including three goals in seven postseason appearances.

McRae leaves Blues to play in Finland
St. Louis native Philip McRae is leaving the Blues to play for Tappara Tampere in the Finnish Elite League.
McRae, 23, played 15 games for the Blues in 2010-11, collecting one goal and two assists. The son of former Blues winger Basil McRae, he played three seasons with the Peoria Rivermen in the American Hockey League, scoring 32 goals and 41 assists in 162 games, including seven goals and 11 assists in 45 games last season.
McKenna and McRae – Blues Assign 24 Players to Peoria
St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Friday the club has assigned 24 players to the Blues’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen.
In addition, the club has assigned three players to their junior and European teams.
The players assigned to Peoria include goaltender Mike McKenna and forward Philip McRae.
McRae Visits Patients at Children’s Hospital
Blues forward Philip McRae visited patients at St. Louis Children’s Hospital on Tuesday, and Tim Fannon probably smiled more during that five-minute visit than he has in all of the last three weeks.
Fannon’s son, Sam, is suffering from a traumatic brain injury that occurred late on August 6, when the Mazda 6 he was driving on a windy road in Waterloo, IL flipped and rolled over several times. The accident injured Sam and all four of his passengers, one of which died from injuries sustained in the crash.
