Mavericks set final roster for opening weekend
The lone exception was Tyler Elbrecht, a defenseman from the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. He joins the team following a late trade for future considerations.
“He’s a nice addition to our defense,” Dickson said. “He’s a shutdown guy who will have a presence out on the ice. He might get into 10 or 12 fights a year – a tough player, but a guy who can skate and really play defense.”

Tyler Elbrecht was a pretty big deal when he played hockey for the Minnesota State University Mavericks.
The last two years as a student at MSU, Elbrecht served as team captain, which has led him to a defenseman position with the ECHL minor league hockey team the Idaho Steelheads.

Elbrecht, 24, played college hockey at Minnesota State, the same college program that produced former Steelhead standout Kael Mouillierat. Elbrecht spent the past two seasons as the squad’s captain, appearing in a total of 142 games during his four-year stint with the Mavericks. In that time, the 6-foot-4 defenseman scored three goals and added 24 assists.

Mavericks Name Captains for 2012-13 – Tyler Elbrecht
The Minnesota State men’s hockey team has announced its team captains for the 2012-13 season.
Serving as captains are senior forward Eriah Hayes and senior defenseman Tyler Elbrecht.
Elbrecht, also a three-year letterwinner, has 2-17–19 in 101 games played over the course of his MSU career. The Edwardsville, Ill., native is a two-time WCHA Scholar-Athlete and a two-time WCHA All-Academic honoree.
