“At the beginning of the tournament, it felt like it took us a little longer to get settled in, but once we did we got rolling,” said Cash, who backstopped the winning side for three of the team’s games, allowing just three scores and posting a 0.921 save percentage. “The more we worked together, the more chemistry we built.”
Goaltender Steve Cash (Overland, Mo.), named player of the game for the second consecutive World Sled Hockey Challenge championship game, made the initial save before Hickey tapped in the rebound.
“We just focused more and we had a good last five minutes of the first. We came out sluggish in the first,” said McKee. “Once we got that first goal, we got it going. The energy was there, the team was pumped.”

The United States Olympic Committee announced today that three-time Paralympian and sled hockey goalie Steve Cash (Overland, Mo.) has been selected as the flag bearer for the U.S. Paralympic Team at the Closing Ceremony for the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games on March 16. Cash was chosen by a vote of fellow Team USA athletes.
He was diagnosed with cancer at 3-years-old and had his leg amputated, but one St. Louis athlete is heading to Sochi despite it all.
