Senior ice hockey forward Ryan McGrath (O’Fallon, Mo.) and senior field hockey midfielder Kelly Freitas (Manchester, N.H.) have been named nominees for the 2016 America East Man and Woman of the Year, respectively, as announced by conference office Monday afternoon.
The Manchester Monarchs, ECHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have signed UMass Lowell River Hawks‘ forward Ryan McGrath to an amateur try-out (ATO) agreement.
McGrath notched two game-winning goals in the weekend sweep of Colorado College, which include the game-clinching score with 2:46 left in regulation in Friday night’s 2-1 victory at the Tsongas Center. He finished the weekend with five shots on goal and a 1 plus/minus rating for the River Hawks.
“I had just stepped onto the ice,” said McGrath. “[Niklas Folin] did a great job keeping the puck in the zone and I was the high third guy. The puck squirted out and I just wanted to get the puck to the net, luckily it went in.”

Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Ryan McGrath has committed to play collegiate hockey at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell beginning in the fall of 2012. McGrath was sixth on the team scoring with 42 points (18g, 24a) in 58 games during his first USHL season in 2010-11, helping the RoughRiders equal a team record with 42 victories and capture the Anderson Cup. Four of his goals were game-winners and the O’Fallon, Missouri native also posted a plus-15 rating.
