Travelling from Denver to St. Louis to London, meeting his new teammates with the London Knights, getting settled in and skating a couple of times at the Budweiser Gardens. Oh, and playing in his first Ontario Hockey League game Friday night on the eve of his 19th birthday.

Knights Sign Mermis To OHL Contract

General Manager Mark Hunter announced today that the team has signed defenseman Dakota Mermis to an Ontario Hockey League contract.  Mermis, a 12th round pick of the London Knights in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection, spent the first part of this season at the University of Denver.  He was also a part of the USHL’s 2011-2012 Green Bay Gamblers who went on to win the Clark Cup last season.  London Knights forward Alex Broadhurst was also a member of that championship team.  Mermis will wear #44 for the London Knights.

Mermis brothers, Jarrod and Dakota, part of DU hockey’s family fun

Turkey and all the fixings will be a family affair for the majority of the University of Denver hockey team even though there is practice Thursday morning.

The Mermis brothers — junior Jarrod and freshman Dakota — are continuing a trend that has brought families together in the Mile High City over the winter holidays. Five sets of brothers have played for DU within the past five years.

Dakota Mermis – Team McClanahan Beats Team Housley, 5-2, in Inaugural CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game

Team McClanahan bested Team Housley, 5-2, in the inaugural CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game Saturday (Sept. 29) at the First Niagara Center. Ryan Fitzgerald (North Reading, Mass.) notched three assists for Team McClanahan and received MVP honors. Meanwhile, Evan Allen (Sterling Heights, Mich.) scored both of Team Housley’s goals.

CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game Roster Announced

USA Hockey announced today the 40 players who will participate in the inaugural CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game, which will take place Sept. 29 at First Niagara Center in Buffalo, N.Y.

The roster boasts 40 of the top American prospects eligible for the 2013 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Represented are 31 players from the United States Hockey League, the top junior league in America, including 22 from USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich. Additionally, at least 28 of the 40 are future NCAA Division I college players.

NHL Central Scouting Names USHL Players on Prelim Rankings
