On Thursday, Colorado Avalanche center Paul Stastny finalized a contract that will see him play for EHC Red Bull Muenchen for the remainder of the NHL lockout. In Muenchen, he will join a team that is currently in 12th place in the 14-team DEL (Germany’s top hockey league), and has been ravaged by injuries.

The Chicago Blackhawks have assigned forwards Kyle Beach, Brandon Bollig, Terry Broadhurst, Rob Flick, Byron Froese, David Gilbert, Jimmy Hayes, Marcus Kruger, Peter LeBlanc, Jeremy Morin, Philippe Paradis, Brandon Pirri, Brandon Saad, Andrew Shaw and Ben Smith, defensemen Adam Clendening, Klas Dahlbeck, Shawn Lalonde, Joe Lavin, Nick Leddy, Dylan Olsen and Ryan Stanton, and goaltenders Mac Carruth, Carter Hutton, Alec Richards and Kent Simpson to the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs.
McKenna and McRae – Blues Assign 24 Players to Peoria
St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Friday the club has assigned 24 players to the Blues’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen.
In addition, the club has assigned three players to their junior and European teams.
The players assigned to Peoria include goaltender Mike McKenna and forward Philip McRae.
Bollig, like many others, faces uncertain future in a lockout
Brandon Bollig stayed behind long after others, including some of his Blackhawks teammates, had left on Thursday. He had soaked in all he could during the NHLPA meetings, which once again ended with players unified in their cause, but nowhere near a new collective bargaining agreement with the NHL.
Vitale Gets High School Jersey Retired
It looked more like a hockey game than a football game when Christian Brothers College High School hosted their rivals on Saturday afternoon in St. Louis.
That’s because CBC alum and Penguins forward Joe Vitale was honored with a halftime ceremony where his No. 16 high school hockey jersey was retired. Vitale was joined by his wife Brianna, daughter Summer, mother Mary Ann, dad Sam and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Landeskog Named Avalanche Captain – Stastny Assistant Captain
The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that forward Gabriel Landeskog has been named team captain. Landeskog was appointed captain by Avalanche head coach Joe Sacco after Milan Hejduk informed the coaching staff that he has relinquished his role.
Hejduk, who served as captain during the 2011-12 campaign, will remain as an assistant captain this upcoming season along with Paul Stastny.
