It didn’t produce the desired result, but Jincy Dunne called her time with the U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team a great learning experience.
The 16-year-old Dunne, a native of O’Fallon, Mo., was named to the 25-player U.S. team in June but ultimately didn’t make the final 21-player Olympic roster, ending her bid to compete in Sochi, Russia, as the youngest U.S. Olympic women’s hockey player ever.
Team USA played a strong defensive game throughout, limiting Russia to just six shots on goal while killing both Russian power-play opportunities. Goaltender Steve Cash (Overland, Mo.) came up with a pair of quality saves on dangerous Russian chances in the final stanza to hold Russia off the board.
The United States Olympic Committee announced today that three-time Paralympian and sled hockey goalie Steve Cash (Overland, Mo.) has been selected as the flag bearer for the U.S. Paralympic Team at the Closing Ceremony for the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games on March 16. Cash was chosen by a vote of fellow Team USA athletes.

He was diagnosed with cancer at 3-years-old and had his leg amputated, but one St. Louis athlete is heading to Sochi despite it all.

Paul Stastny has always taken as much pride in wearing the USA jersey as his father, Peter, owned wearing the Slovakia sweater.
“My dad’s answer was, ‘Well, we’re playing Slovakia,’ ” Paul Stastny said Thursday evening. “So he’s USA all the way.”
Because he represents Team USA, Paul Stastny will get the most attention among Avalanche Olympians from fans in Colorado, if not the entire United States — but that’s not to say his teammates will be forgotten in Sochi.
It’s the first day of school in Overland, Mo., and Steve Cash can’t hide his bald head, freshly shaved since the start of chemotherapy. Nor can he hide the creaking noise he makes when he awkwardly takes a step with his new right prosthetic leg.
