The Quad City Mallards have signed forward Michael Parks, the Mallards announced today.
Injury limited Parks, 24, to three games- and one assist- as a rookie with the American Hockey League’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms last season.
“Michael had a good senior year and a good college career after getting set back by injuries when he was a sophomore,” said Flyers scouting director Chris Pryor. “Our organization is going to evaluate where we’re at with Michael and then we’ll make a decision.”
Parks, who was UND’s leading scorer in mid-February, has just one point in the past 10 games — a second assist against Colorado College in Game 2 of the playoff series. His 10-game goal drought is the longest of his college career.
When the NCAA Frozen Four begins in Boston next week, four St. Louis products will be spread among the programs playing for college hockey supremacy. They include Brian O’Rourke (Nebraska-Omaha), Dominic Zombo (Nebraska-Omaha), Nick Saracino (Providence) and Michael Parks (North Dakota).
Senior Michael Parks said he expects to try to improve in every area of the game.
“We celebrated the win at the regional in Fargo,” he said. “But I still feel like there’s a lot left to go.”
Recently, North Dakota head coach Dave Hakstol put forwards Drake Caggiula, Mark MacMillan and Michael Parks on the same forward line. They made their first appearance on February 7, 2014, against the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks.
Parks, a native of St. Louis, Mo., was UND’s Rookie of the Year in 2011-12 when he collected 12 goals and 10 assists in 42 games. Last season he scored seven goals and one assist in an injury-plagued season that limited him to just 25 games. A general studies major, Parks has received UND’s Engelstad Family Foundation Endowment in each of the last two seasons. He was selected by Philadelphia in the fifth round (149th overall) of the 2010 NHL draft.
