For his efforts in Friday’s 1-1 tie against the Penn State Nittany Lions, Niagara freshman goaltender Joe O’Brien was named the Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week on Tuesday.

Niagara hockey announces freshmen class
Joe O’Brien, a goalie from Brentwood, Mo., won 37 games with a .926 save percentage in two seasons with the Nipawin Hawks of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. This past season, O’Brien earned the Sherwood Division Goalie of the Year.
O’Brien Joins Select Company
Hawks Goalie Joe O’Brien was the last player to touch the puck, and was credited with his first career SJHL goal.
O’Brien follows in the footsteps of current La Ronge Ice Wolf goalie Austin Rediron who scored on a 200 foot wrist shot into an open net while playing for the Melfort Mustangs one year ago.

1995 G Joe O’Brien (Clayton CA) turned aside 61 of 63 shots in two starts last week, helping his team earn a split in his two appearances. On Saturday, he made 33-saves in a 2-1 decision over Weyburn.
