U.S. to play for gold medal at WJAC
Jay Varady guided the Americans to the gold in 2014 at Kindersley, Saskatchewan. Tonight, beginning at 6 o’clock at R.J. Lalonde Arena, Varady’s group of 22 United States Hockey League skaters will face Canada East, with the winner taking home the top prize.

Power play encourages Musketeers’ Varady
Varady cited assistant coach Mark Abalan, who is in charge of the Musketeers’ power play unit. Five players recorded power play assists in the first two games, including Jake Ryczek, who last season, scored 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) on the man advantage.

“We look for a player with a hockey IQ, a player who can think the game,” said Varady. “We look for players who can skate and play our pressure style.

On Tuesday, scouts from all 30 NHL teams will be in Dubuque to watch the top prospects from across the USHL.

The United States Hockey League announced the coaches selected for the 2015 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on Jan. 13 in Dubuque, Iowa. Mark Carlson of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and Jay Varady of the Sioux City Musketeers will lead the two teams during the showcase event.
