Ten years ago, lawyer-turned-Tampa Bay Lightning coach Jon Cooper was working at his first real hockey gig with the junior Texarkana Bandits, who later migrated to St. Louis, and he had this raw, big kid named Patrick Maroon on that North American Hockey League team.
Bishop gave up three goals on 22 shots against the Flames on Wednesday, but he secured a road win thanks to six goals of support from his offense.
“I was lucky that it hit the visor first and took some of the heat off it,” Wideman said when asked how it’s possible the wayward shot didn’t bust his nose. “And I’m thankful there was no broken teeth. Don’t want that right before the holidays. Mom wouldn’t be too happy.”

This season the team is experiencing a series of high-end ‘firsts’ as a Division 1 contender. As the Lions moved into the top-10 and up the rankings in each of the voter polls and the PairWise Rankings, each spot above 14 became a new all-time high for the program, which reached a peak of 14 last season. The current 11-game win streak, and 13-game unbeaten streak, are also program records.
One player who could shine at World Juniors is Keller, who holds the U.S. National Team Development Program record for points with 189 on 71 goals and 118 assists. He was called into last year’s preliminary camp, which was held at Agganis Arena, alongside Bellows, Krys and McAvoy.

A two-goal effort last Friday gave the University of Wisconsin men’s hockey team’s Luke Kunin the Big Ten’s second star of the week.
Kunin scored twice in a five-goal second period in the Badgers’ 7-4 victory at Michigan. He added an assist in a 4-1 loss on Saturday.
For the second time this season, sophomore Luke Kunin has been recognized as the Big Ten’s second star of the week, after producing three points in a series split at Michigan.
