“Honestly, I wasn’t really that surprised,” insisted Calgary Flames left-winger Matthew Tkachuk, another of the NHL’s impact rookies, a former linemate of Matthews with USA Hockey’s national development program and his sidekick again at the world juniors last holiday season.
Maroon shot past Pouliot on the depth chart in the final weeks of last season and he’s not letting up. He’s been the Oilers best winger by a long shot for the past month.
“Paul was nice enough to host us and cook us a pretty darn good meal,” Shattenkirk said. “I wound up carving the turkey when it came out of the oven. His wife Haley did a great job and Alex Steen’s fiance Josie, they spent most of the hours in the kitchen.”
Ken Hitchcock put the pair together against Buffalo Nov. 15 and they have not been separated since. In those five games, Schwartz has six points and Stastny three and seven of those nine points have come at even strength.
The son of Medford native and former Malden Catholic Lancer Keith Tkachuk, Matthew, is getting a crash course at life in the National Hockey League. The 6-foot-2, 202-pound left winger has five goals and four assists in his first 19 NHL games, not a bad start for someone just two weeks shy of his 19 birthday.

When Matthew Tkachuk entered the NHL this year, he didn’t know if he was going to stay or go back to junior. Neither did Calgary Flames’ General Manager, Brad Treliving, who had been on the fence about the final decision.
Bearing a striking resemblance to his legendary father, Keith, Matthew Tkachuk is proving to be a chip off the old block.
The Calgary Flames rookie and his team will take on the Boston Bruins, Friday, Nov. 25 at the TD Garden.
The 18-year-old Tkachuk, with five goals of his own and an abrasive style that drives opponents bonkers, has been one of few bright spots for the Flames.
Wideman scored four goals, added three assists and was +7 last week, helping the Fuel to a 3-0-0 record.
The 24-year-old tallied a goal and an assist in a 6-1 win over Wheeling on Friday and in a 4-3 victory against Atlanta on Saturday before notching three points (2g-1a) in a 6-5 win over the Gladiators on Sunday.
