April 5, 2013 was a pivotal day in Scott Mayfield’s life. That Friday, a year-and-a-half ago the Islanders’ 2011 second-round pick signed an entry-level contract with the organization, opting to leave the University of Denver to go pro.

SenSeries Profile: Defenseman Chris Wideman

Third year pro Chris Wideman entertains the blue line once again for the upcoming 2014-’15 season for the Binghamton Senators. The crafty, smooth skating native from St. Louis, MO looks to improve on his career best 51 points last season and help the B-Sens capture back to back division titles for the first time in their history and go deeper into the playoffs and bring home, on the heels of what the other sports team in this city just did, another championship, as the Binghamton Mets just accomplished in winning their third AA Eastern League Championship last night.
Monday Mashup: Loov returning to Sweden? Leafs invite Cal Heeter to camp?

The Maple Leafs appear to have invited former Andirondack Phantoms goalie (ex-Flyers property, signed out of college) Cal Heeter to their camp. More options does seem prudent. Technically Garret Sparks is the #3 goalie right now and he’s played a total of 21 AHL games.
A quick fit for Stastny could signal a strong start for Blues

No offseason signing made a bigger splash than that of Paul Stastny, an experienced veteran who immediately improves the Blues’ depth at center.
He posted 25 goals and 35 assists last season for Colorado, his highest totals in the last four seasons for both categories. The 28-year-old scored or assisted on half of the Avalanche’s 20 goals in the playoffs, even though they lost to Minnesota in seven games in the first round.
Lightning G Ben Bishop confident he’ll be healthy in time for season

While Lightning goalie Ben Bishop said his surgically repaired right wrist likely won’t be 100 percent by training camp next week, he expects to be ready for the season.
Blake Clarke Might Be The Best Player Undrafted in 2014

Last year Blake Clarke was highly touted. He was invited to play in the All American Prospects Game in Pittsburgh, with many other draft hopefuls including, Thatcher Demko (drafted 36th overall by Vancouver), Sonny Milano (drafted 16th overall by Columbus), Ryan Donato (56th overall pick by Boston) and Ryan MacInnis (43rd overall by Arizona) to name a few. He had a good showing in the game. And then he got injured. None of us in the media knew. Most still thought he was an “A” prospect.
Stastny, Butler go high-school haunting

A return to St. Louis and where they grew up hit home for Blues players Paul Stastny and Chris Butler on Monday.
The two Chaminade High grads were formally introduced to an assembly of some 800 students at the school’s new Fine Arts building, marking the opening of a new school year.
Paul Stastny eager to be a winner in his hometown

The St. Louis Blues’ new center isn’t one to make bold predictions either. Stastny certainly wasn’t going to predict that he would one day suit up in the city where he spent much of his childhood.
But like many who consider it a dream to play in their hometown, Stastny is living out his dream now, and for at least the next four seasons.
