The Chicago Wolves are proud to announce that right wing Michael Davies has been named the team’s winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Chicago community during the 2013-14 season.
The celebrations were well-deserved for the Binghamton Senators, who rallied from a two-goal deficit late in the second period to defeat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 4-3 in overtime on Wednesday night. Defenseman Chris Wideman tallied the game-winner on the power play 30 seconds into overtime, giving Binghamton its league-best seventh overtime win.
A huge brawl erupted at the end of the Portland Pirates’ 2-0 victory over the Phantoms on Sunday, with several fights breaking out at once and goalies Cal Heeter and Louis Domingue getting in on the action.
Center Sean Dolan and defenseman Beau Schmitz are rejoining the team in Charlotte for Friday’s home game against the Oklahoma City Barons, which marks the team’s annual Pink in the Rink event at Time Warner Cable Arena. Both players were with Charlotte until recently, with Schmitz assigned to Florida on Jan. 25 and Dolan heading down on Jan. 31.
The Checkers assigned Dolan, who has missed the last 21 games since suffering an injury on Nov. 30, to their ECHL affiliate on Friday. The Everblades are scheduled to play home games against Greenville on Friday and Saturday, two of three games they will play over the course of the Checkers’ current four-game road trip.
Early on in their American Hockey League game Sunday, the Albany Devils got what they wanted from their “energy line.” Mike Hoeffel tipped Rod Pelley’s shot into the net. Cam Janssen punctuated the play by fighting one of the Binghamton Senators.

General Manager Craig MacTavish announced today the Edmonton Oilers have acquired centre Steve Pinizzotto and winger Jack Combs from the Florida Panthers, in exchange for centre Ryan Martindale and winger Derek Nesbitt.
The American Hockey League announced Monday that Adirondack Phantoms goaltender Cal Heeter was selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 5.
It was a good week for the Phantoms, and an even better one for goalie Cal Heeter.
The team is on a four-game winning streak, including two straight shutouts by Heeter, who stopped a combined 86 of 87 shots over three games this week.
