Dolan signs with Checkers

South Carolina Stingrays forward Sean Dolan has signed a standard player contract with the American Hockey League’s Charlotte Checkers.

Dolan, who was called up to Charlotte on Jan. 6, had played 21 games with the Checkers under a player tryout contact before signing his new deal. Dolan will remain with the Checkers for the rest of the regular season.

Bishop Named MVP of AHL All-Star Game

Blues goaltender Ben Bishop was named the MVP of the 2012 American Hockey League All-Star Game on Monday.

Bishop made 10 saves on 11 shots in Monday’s midseason showcase and stopped all four shooters he faced in a shootout, helping the Western Conference All-Stars to an 8-7 win.

Bishop shines in AHL All-Star Skills Competition

The AHL put on its 2012 All-Star Skills Competition at historic Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., on Sunday.

And Peoria Rivermen goaltender Ben Bishop stole the show.

Bishop earned Top Goaltender honors after he stopped 16 of 19 shots in the competition — including all six challengers in the Breakaway Relay — to lead the Western Conference to an 18-10 overall victory against the Eastern Conference.

Elliott’s new contract is bad news for Bishop

Blues goaltending prospect Ben Bishop had the same reaction as many fans did Wednesday when the club signed Brian Elliott to a two-year, $3.6 million contract extension.

Bishop, who is in his fourth full season in the American Hockey League and NHL-ready according to many league observers, might be in his final days with his hometown organization. The Blues now have Elliott and Jaroslav Halak locked up for the next two seasons.
