Winners include Auston Matthews of Team USA, named CCM Forward of the Week; Chad Krys of Team USA and Hayden Shaw of the Dubuque Fighting Saints, named co-recipients of CCM Defenseman of the Week; and Cam Gornet of the Sioux City Musketeers and Eric Schierhorn of the Muskegon Lumberjacks, selected as co-recipients of CCM Goaltender of the Week.
Gornet posted his second shutout of the season Saturday night, recording 35 saves as the Musketeers blanked the Madison Capitols 6-0 in front of 3,376 fans at Alliant Energy Center. Joe Snively and Max Kalter each recorded a goal and an assist for Coach Jay Varady’s 34-16-5 Musketeers, who clinched a second straight United States Hockey League playoff berth.
Defenseman Clark Kuster could see action at some point this busy weekend. The Riders were at Des Moines Friday night, host Sioux City Saturday night and are at Dubuque Sunday afternoon.
Tkachuk is one of the more interesting players on the United States Under-18 National Team Development Program. The native of St. Louis, Missouri recently de-committed to Notre Dame after verbally committing to the university in January 2013.
Luke Opilka is in his second year in the National Team Development Program, or Team USA. Lisa Opilka said Luke in his first year in the program competed both in the US Hockey League and internationally. This year, Luke is in the national program, is playing against college hockey squads, and is competing internationally. Last year, the stops along the way included Slovakia, Sweden and Nova Scotia.
On Tuesday, scouts from all 30 NHL teams will be in Dubuque to watch the top prospects from across the USHL.

The United States Hockey League announced the coaches selected for the 2015 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on Jan. 13 in Dubuque, Iowa. Mark Carlson of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and Jay Varady of the Sioux City Musketeers will lead the two teams during the showcase event.
Languishing in last place in the United States Hockey League Western Conference with 19 points heading into Wednesday’s action, the Black Hawks at the start of the month acquired goalie Trevor Gorsuch from the Michigan Warriors of the North American Hockey League.
The United States Hockey League and NHL Central Scouting today announced the players selected to compete in the 2015 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game that takes place on January 13th in Dubuque, Iowa at the Mystique Community Ice Center, home of the USHL’s Dubuque Fighting Saints.
Gorsuch gets call up. Michigan Warriors starting goaltender Trevor Gorsuch received a call up Friday, Dec. 5, to the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League.
Gorsuch, 20, was 38-41-9 in four seasons with the Warriors, tallying a 2.64 goals against average and .921 save percentage. He posted six wins, including three shutouts, and 1.23 goals against average last year in the playoffs for Michigan, which advanced to the Robertson Cup semifinals.
