The United States Hockey League announced the coaches selected for the 2015 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on Jan. 13 in Dubuque, Iowa. Mark Carlson of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and Jay Varady of the Sioux City Musketeers will lead the two teams during the showcase event.

Gorsuch gets call up. Michigan Warriors starting goaltender Trevor Gorsuch received a call up Friday, Dec. 5, to the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League.
Gorsuch, 20, was 38-41-9 in four seasons with the Warriors, tallying a 2.64 goals against average and .921 save percentage. He posted six wins, including three shutouts, and 1.23 goals against average last year in the playoffs for Michigan, which advanced to the Robertson Cup semifinals.

Luke Opilka came very close to quitting hockey before realizing his true calling as a goaltender during an open skate at a friend’s birthday party.
“I was never too good a player; the only goal I ever scored was on my own net,” Opilka said. “I really thought I actually scored a goal so I began celebrating. I was probably a mite [8 years old] then and I probably should have known better, but I didn’t.”
The Corpus Christi IceRays have recalled affiliate forward Frankie Melton from the St. Louis Jr. Blues of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL). This is his first experience in the North American Hockey League (NAHL), and he is the second affiliate to be recalled by the IceRays this season.
