The national team announced on Tuesday morning that forwards Ryan MacInnis, Conor Garland, Jordan Greenway, and Christian Fischer had been cut from the U20 roster at development camp in Lake Placid; those four were joined by defensemen Jack Dougherty and Joshua Jacobs as the two defensemen cut, while blue liner Jonathan Macleod has left camp for ‘precautionary reasons’.
Left wing Matthew Tkachuk is a regular chip off the old block.
Tkachuk, son of former NHL player Keith Tkachuk and a potential top-five pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, had three goals and two assists for the United States white team in a 10-4 exhibition win against Sweden on Monday during USA Hockey’s national junior evaluation camp at Lake Placid Olympic Center’s 1980 Herb Brooks Arena.
He isn’t the only prospect that will have a chance to make the team next year.
MacInnis, a product of St.Louis, Missouri, will play with Dvorak, along with Fischer, on “Team Blue” at the USA Evaluation Camp.
Twenty-two players who participated at the USA Hockey Boys Select 17 Player Development Camp have been chosen for the 2015 U.S. Under-18 Select Team that will compete Aug. 10-15 at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in Breclav, Czech Republic, and Piestany, Slovakia.
Goaltender Steve Cash stopped all eight shots he faced. Declan Farmer broke a scoreless tie 2:58 into the third period for the U.S. Daniel McCoy and Joshua Pauls had the other goals.
Former Effingham resident Luke Opilka is a member of the USA national hockey team that just won a world championship.
“I have been involved in USA Hockey as part of the NTDP for two years now, so the work I’ve put in over that time has been crucial to where I am right now. Our team has had winning a gold medal at this event on our minds for two years now. I enjoy the fact that USA Hockey has grown tremendously as is evidenced by our success internationally,” Matthew Tkachuk explains.
Her name is Jincy Dunne, a 5-foot, 6-inch tall 17-year-old from The Fulton School in St. Albans. Last month, Jincy, the captain of the U.S Women’s National Under-18 Team, scored the gold-medal-winning goal in overtime against Canada.
A senior at The Fulton School in St. Albans, Dunne is not your typical teen. Her rapid on-ice development over the past year has put her on the fast track to the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.
An O’Fallon, Missouri, teen scored the gold medal-clinching overtime goal for Team USA hockey at the Under-18 Women’s World Championship Monday.
