Scheid, Goodwin Score in 3-2 Loss to No. 13/16 UML

Freshman forward David Goodwin’s (Des Peres, Mo.) third-period strike brought the Nittany Lions to within a goal, but the Penn State men’s hockey team fell to No. 13/16 UMass Lowell, 3-2, at Pegula Ice Arena Friday night. The Nittany Lions fell to 3-5-1 with the setback, while UMass Lowell improved to 8-4-0.

Princeton Men’s Hockey Mired in Slump; But Confident It Can Turn Things Around

Hosting defending national champion Yale last Friday, the Princeton University men’s hockey team dug an early hole.

The Tigers yielded two unanswered goals in the first period and trailed 5-1 after two.

Princeton senior captain Jack Berger acknowledged that the Tigers put themselves behind the eight ball with their early lapses.

Wideman scores 2 as Miami blanks Canisius

Wideman’s other two-goal game came at home on Jan. 28, 2012 against Northern Michigan in a 6-0 win.

Wideman intercepted a pass and wristed a shot through traffic that slipped through off goalie Keegan Asmundson on a power play with 3:52 left in the first period to open the scoring.

Junior left winger Sam Warning of the Gophers was named one of the Big Ten’s three weekly stars in men’s hockey. Warning, picked the second star, had three assists as No. 1-ranked Minnesota tied and beat Boston College this past weekend.

Hockey star starts Mankato delivery business

Tyler Elbrecht was a pretty big deal when he played hockey for the Minnesota State University Mavericks.

The last two years as a student at MSU, Elbrecht served as team captain, which has led him to a defenseman position with the ECHL minor league hockey team the Idaho Steelheads.

Parks earns first collegiate win for SLU hockey

Freshman goaltender Tyler Parks made 20 saves to record his first collegiate victory and defenseman Justin Baker generated a four-point night, including three assists, to help lead St. Lawrence University’s men’s hockey team past Northeastern, 6-4, on Saturday night in a nonconference game at Appleton Arena.

DU Pioneers hockey team playing this season with tri-captains

First-year University of Denver hockey coach Jim Montgomery is familiar with the use of tri-captains for an entire season. The former Maine star and longtime pro was the only captain as a senior for the Black Bears in the 1992-93 season, but coach Shawn Walsh used tri-captains in Montgomery’s first three seasons.

With the Pioneers, Montgomery sees tri-captains David Makowski, Josiah Didier and Zac Larraza as different leaders, who combined will cover all of the bases when Didier (knee) and Larraza (shoulder) return from injuries in the coming weeks.
